In 2017, Brad King and Jason Sommerville founded Orbion Space Technology in Houghton, Michigan. King and Sommerville, Orbion’s CEO and CTO, respectively, saw an opportunity to advance satellite propulsion technology, responding to an expanding small-satellite market and rapidly expanding space technology industry. Named Up-and-Coming Company of the Year by the Michigan Venture Capital Association in 2019, Orbion is set to lead the way in plasma thruster technology for small satellites launched by both public and private enterprises. In support of the high-potential northern Michigan-based company, Boomerang Catapult participated in Orbion’s Series A in 2019 and Series B in 2021.
